Good Morning Friends,

I promised to talk about repurposed pet food bags, so here they are. As you can see they are different sizes and shapes. I am quite pleased with them and can think of lots ways to put them to use. They are washable. I use a sanitizing cloth or soapy water and the garden hose if they are really bad. Pop cans get really sticky.

To make them, I open the bottom seam, turn inside out and sew the bottom closed with a 1/2 inch seam. Stitch twice for strength. This a good time to clean the inside with a multipurpose cleaner.  I then make a 4-5 inch gusset to create a rectangle bottom. Turn inside out again. Cut 4 inches off of the top, cut in half and fold into quarters lengthwise to make both of the handles. The handles are double stitched.  I fold the top over 1 inch, then again. Now make two rows of stitching with handles inserted into the top hem. Store bags with clorox cleaning sheet inside to keep fresh smelling.

I have an industrial sewing maching that makes the project easier , however, I have done it on my regular machine and it worked out just fine.

If you have questions making your bags, contact me.

Post how you use your bags so we will never have enough bags and can keep these bags out of the landfill!

Recycle bags, swim bag, garden refuse, shopping bags. Oh boy, now my mind is going crazy thinking of ways to use these little gems.

Have a wonderful day!

Sam verses Olive

Hello,
This morning I was thinking about my new refrigerator and how much I love her. You see, my previous refrig was 35 years old and her name was Olive, as in green. My new refrigerator's name is Sam, as in Samsong. Sam is absolutley wonderful. Bright lights, large shelves and lots of space. However, Sam just doesn't know how to keep vegetables fresh like Olive did. So, since I love a challange, and after seeing how much plastic waste goes into our rivers and oceans, I decided to make a few cloth bags out of old hand towels to store my vegies in. Now let me tell you they work like a charm. I folded a hand towel in half across the narrow side, stitched two sides closed and left one side open. I dampened the towels and placed my rinsed (rinse in gallon of water and 1/4 cup of H2O2) vegies in the bag and left the top open. It has been 4 days and my celery is crisper than when I purchased. You can use just about any fabric you chose to make the bags, kitchen towels, yardage or whatever you choose. I love to recycle and repurpose so I used old towels.
About rinsing, I have a dear friend who is taking chemo and they told him to be sure and buy organic and rinse all fruits and vegies before consuming. Hmmmm? I decided to be proactive since it sure can't hurt to wash away the chemicals and bacteria before consuming.

I will be making several bags so I can switch them out and wash to keep fresh as a daisy.

I love homemaking and hope you enjoy my tips as much as I enjoy creating them. I know others may have already done this and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for giving me the ideas.
Next post I will show you what to do with those great woven plastic pet food bags.
Have a creative day that is loaded with fun.

Good Morning Friends,

Just a note to tell you about my likes. I love vintage trailers and have been restoring a 1962 Kenskill since last summer. Her name is "Let'er Buck" and she is clothed in western attire as you can see. My husband, Ron, did all of the outside work and still has a long way to go. However, we could take her to the mountains just as she is. And we will be heading out just as soon as the weather warms. When we acquired her she had been inhabited by many little creatures and they all left their calling cards. Pretty smelly and a mess. However, with alot of elbow grease and clorox, a paint job, and new flooring, she is free of undesirable smells and is squeaky clean.

We replaced the counters and backplash with diamond deck aluminum. I love it and it is so easy to clean.
I will post more photos as I go. Don't want to bore you with to many of my "baby" photos. If you are into vintage trailers, please share. We have so much to talk about.

Now that I am getting the hang of this blogging adventure I will be posting regularly. I would really like to share likes and adventures with you. Until tomorrow. So Long Partner.

Happy March 7,2013

I am so excited to start the new adventure of blogging. Stick with me and I know we will have a ball. Since I am new at this I need some time to learn all the ropes. But, when I do, look out. I love to read others blogs and get so much inspiration from them. I hope you feel the same with me.
Have a great day!
